Our Reward

After a few very hot days, the wind brought in some cooler air.   I went out to tuck the chickens in their coop, feed a final snack to the horses and donkeys, and the sky to the East turned absolutely gorgeous.   I don't have a very good spot to take photos in that direction, but I had to run in for my camera and take some anyway.   No editing, just the gorgeous skies.   Our reward for dealing with a few more hot days.

Then, turning around to the other direction, you can see the fog coming over the hills.   We love to see that because it means nighttime cooling.   Ahhhhh.   The sky to the southwest was so much different than looking to the east.   I always find that interesting in photos.   Turn around and the colors change.   The doves sit on those wires every evening.   They are such gentle creatures and always add to the peacefulness of the moment.

Every single one of you...you and you and you....have a nice Friday and safe holiday weekend.

Beezy Beezy Beezy

I haven't taken much time for blogging this past week.   I have 2 of the horses here at home, it's very hot again, I am getting prices/bids for a couple projects in the house, and yadda yadda yadda.

So I will be back soon.   I am trying to take time each day to read your posts.   I am waiting for September.   I love September....and October.

This big oak tree stands next to my friend's barn...the barn where Henry lives, when he's not here with me.   Cooper is here too.   It's so nice to have them home for a short while.

Enjoy your days.   Each one is precious.   Sending my very best to Hilary who is recovering from brain surgery.   We all look forward to hearing from her again very very soon.

Mission Doors

I hope you are having a nice Sunday.   It has cooled off so nicely and I feel Autumn in the air.   Don't you just love it?   I do!    September, I see you peeking around the corner.

Fountain of Beauty

There is a fountain in front of the Santa Barbara Mission.   It's very difficult to take a photo of the entire fountain because everyone is standing around for photo ops of their loved ones.  This gives you an idea of the beauty of the fountain.   But see that person walking behind?   Yep, they were like ants crawling through my photos.   *sigh*   I guess nobody advised the tourists that I would be needing lots of space that day;-)

So I tried to take advantage of the low spot and the beautiful lilypads in the pool of the fountain.   I hope you appreciate this because - Dang! - my knees do not like to be kneeling on a concrete structure for more than about one second.   But I persevered, I survived, and here's what I enjoyed.

Hi To Sissy!

I have very poor video skills.   But I did this and left it unedited because really, who cares?   Ha!

Heading out to get my hair done and then enjoy some of this "less than 100 degree" weather.

I Find Serenity

I find serenity at the missions.   It's not about religion.   There is such a simplicity about them and so much history behind the buildings themselves, I just find a peacefulness that makes me want to stay for a while.   If you visit California, I highly recommend that you spend time at one or more of our missions.   I hope to visit more and share them with you here.

Mission Santa Barbara

I have probably said before, on this blog, that the California missions are a treasure.   I hadn't visited Mission Santa Barbara before this, and I'm glad I made some time for it.   Big tour buses and lots of visitors make it difficult to capture photos that include NO people.   I managed to take a few.

I'm Outta Here!

I am leaving for a few days, heading south to Santa Barbara.   I won't be posting to my blog because I will have my iPad rather than a laptop.   But I will be sure to check in on "youse guys" and see what you're doing.   Did I spell that correctly?   Youse?   I hope so.

I have an extra memory card for my camera because Santa Barbara is beeeeeautiful and I hope to take some nice photos.   See you soon.   Outta here.

Sky Rays

We had a gorgeous sky this morning.   I guess it's our reward for dealing with the heat wave all week.   We hung around outside for a while with the animals and I was able to get some morning photos.   Right before we came inside, the sky lit up as though a big spotlight was shining up from the clouds.   It was very very pretty.   The first photo is SOOC.   The second photo is edited with Auto Tone in Lightroom.   The third photo is edited slightly with an adjustment in Lightroom to the Exposure and Blacks.

A wide angle lens would have been very cool for this sky!

Gliding on the Breeze - Sunday Best

We drove to the coast today.   The temperature at home was 100 degrees when we left at 10:30.   When we arrived, the temperature was 63 degrees.   This photo represents the day as we sat and watched these guys soar around on the cool breezes.   It was a few hours that I desperately needed, taking in deep breaths of fresh sea air, and feeling the pure enjoyment of being outdoors as we wait for this heat wave to release us from its wrath.

Here's to a peaceful Sunday and happiness gliding on the breeze.

Rural Thursday

It's 108 degrees here.  It's hot as Hell.    I have no words, only a photo to share.   This was taken last week, which I am referring to as BH (before Hell).

Summer Surprise

We don't have summer rain.   Our rains don't normally start until October and by that time, they are welcome indeed.   Last week a surprise cool front rolled in and there was a leetle teensy bit of rain along with it.   I didn't care so much about the rain, but the temperatures dropping from 103 down to 85 from one day to the next....that was heaven.   And we had some pretty clouds along with the delightful temps, although I didn't capture many of those.   I have hundreds of pretty cloud photos.   I just wanted to cement the day in my mind because it was so delightful.

Have a very nice Monday and pleasant dreams of Autumn just around the corner.
