A New Horse
I have been looking for a new riding horse, but honestly my heart wasn't in it. My love of horses has a strong emotional element that's hard to describe unless you have it. So rather than purchase someone's horse who is very nice, broke, etc., I decided to put my money where my mouth is and rescue one to bring home to California. This guy was on the kill buyer's lot in Pennsylvania with one last chance to be adopted. So that's what I did. Last night he was taken to a safe barn where he will be picked up today by a lady who is going to quarantine him for me. She will bring in the vet, the farrier, and do whatever is needed to fatten him up and make sure he's healthy. Then he will ship out here to me. I feel so good about this decision. I may not have chosen him if I saw him living at someone's nice home, but he needed me and it makes my heart happy.
I am NOT looking for a bunch of comments saying what a good person I am, what a great kind act this was....please don't lay that on me. I just want to share this story because it means a lot to me. So many of you have done and are doing so much for animals, and I applaud that. We do it because it feels right, and that's enough.
I had already given the name Luke to another rescue horse, but he's not mine, so we decided to use that same name for this guy.

I know what you mean about the emotional tie with a horse...My special one died three years ago from cancer and I haven't gotten another one...I do miss her so much...
By the way, I like your new header...so springy...
A big heart it is you have.
I just wanted you to know I am glad you got Luke and I just know he is going to love you forever....They do seem to know when someone saves them....I have a cat that I am sure he knew he was going to die and I nursed him back to health....
I am just so excited for you and I can't wait to see him all fatted up and ready to ride...
