When Life Gives You Sparrows
I love looking at photos of pretty pretty birds gathered around people's feeders or ponds or backyards. Bright colors of red, blue, and yellow just pop off the screen and delight the eye. We used to have a few more pretty colors pass through our place, but it's becoming more and more rare. I'm not sure why that is. We had some pretty finches until we took down a tree in front of the house when we did the remodel. I don't see them anymore. An occasional flash of blue or orange catches my eye but rarely the camera lens. Our property is ruled by a pair of crows, which I appreciate. Not only do I enjoy their antics and vocalizations, but they own this territory and that seems to be keeping the hawks from moving in. We also have Magpies, another confident and sometimes entertaining bird. Other than that, we have the joy of hearing an occasional Mockingbird, the annoyance of the Starlings taking daily baths in the chicken bowls, Blackbirds doing fly-ins by the hundreds, and the Sparrows. Ah yes, the Sparrows. First there are 5 or 10. Then there are 50. Before you know it, there are at least 100. They love the chicken feed and consume about half of what I put out. And then leave their little white droppings everywhere. I try to appreciate their cuteness and take a few photos to amuse myself. But still, they are Sparrows. And I want other birds. But life has given us these little creatures. What's a girl to do? Take a few photos and move on. Enjoy your Cardinals and so many others. I will continue to look at your photos with a bit of envy.
A frosty morning with sparrows filling the trees.
They are kind of cute, if there just weren't so many.

They also come in brown.
I'll be watching and waiting for something else. If nothing appears, you will see more photos of the Sparrows.
