Part Deux

Crowmageddon, that is.   I really enjoyed working on these photos, starting with some of the Lightroom presets.   Shirley mentioned, and she's so right, that photos of black animals or items are difficult because you can't see the detail.   Don't be afraid to change the colors a bit, not because they're perfectly correct, but because it makes the subject(s) stand out more.   If you have an editing program that allows you to lift the shadows, do that.   It will make certain features stand out that you want to see a little better.  Crows are such a great example because they have cool features and pretty feathers.   These two were in the parking lot at Piedras Blancas where everyone watches the elephant seals (more photos coming on that too).   They were used to all the people and of course were hoping for snacks.   They let me get close enough to capture some photos without scaring them off.

That's my little photo share of the day.   Those of you who are still suffering from this very very unusual Winter, stay safe and warm today.   And enjoy your Tuesday.

Very cool photos.
We have been rehabbing a crow that was hit by a car since Oct . hoping he can be released back to nature in the Spring

After reading one of your earlier posts I purchased volume 2 of Trey Ratcliff's presets. One word: AWESOME!
Thanks for mentioning him and as usual, I love your photos!

You did great with these -- with German Shepherds, black is my nemesis. Thanks for the tips. xo

Nice work with the editing. It really shows the detail of the feathers nicely.

these are nice! and its great when you capture a good shot and it looks good just the way it is, or you can monkey with it and it turns out wonderful too :)

"steal" one of them??
Nice editing- I like the tones that you can pull out of black- some rich ones.

Oh, I like your suggestion of changing up the colors a little - the toning adds to the moodiness (and they are crows, so that fits!).
I never considered crows to have pretty feathers, but now that I see the details, I agree!
Thanks for the mention, too.
