12 Hours

The sun rose on Saturday morning and with the summer clouds came a beautiful sunrise show.   We had no particular plans for the day.

Then came the call.   That call.   And in an instant, the world was forever changed for my dear Erik and his family.   I didn't have the chance to know his brother as he was a man dedicated to a career in our Special Forces and spent much of his life away, doing his job to make a difference.

I have lived through much loss and I know that life goes on without the person who is gone.   But by the time the sun set Saturday night, and plans were made for family members to gather, the world was different for those who loved this man.

Still, the skies lit up with beautiful colors and even a rainbow that was completely unexpected.

Rest in Peace

Critter Photos

105 Degrees

Every day I take photos of our three squirrels.   Most of them are taken through a window.   I can't help myself, they are so darn cute.   The young ones are hilarious with their playful antics.   I have no idea whether they will stay around once they reach maturity, but for now I have a little more enjoyment out my window.

Sunday Awesomeness

The humpback whales are feeding in the bay at Avila Beach.    It's been packed with people wanting to catch sight of these awesome creatures.   We drove down yesterday morning and arrived at 8:00 in hopes of getting a parking place, and we scored.   We walked out on the very long Avila Pier and spent two hours watching a few of the whales cruising.   Although none of them came right next to the pier as they had on previous days, it was still worth the experience.   The bay was like glass with an overcast sky and you could hear the whales as they would come up and blow.   Had I been there without so many people, and had a comfortable chair to get off my feet, I honestly could have stayed all day.

And dolphins!!!!

With our temperatures approaching triple digits this week, I will probably go long as the whales stay.

It's Monday....enjoy the day.

Thursday is a Little Bit Random

I've been semi-regularly posting photos on Facebook and then don't remember to share them here.   So these are quite random and don't tell any kind of story.

Washed up wind sail on Moonstone Beach

We had a little strange weather after Hurricane Blanca sent her remains this direction.   I wanted to take photos of the awesome clouds but I was too busy getting my hair done yesterday.   Today I get the massage I was supposed to have last week.   I usually go twice a month but once in a while other things get in the way.   I'm ready.   I hope you have a great Thursday and thanks for visiting!

Wild Things

Our outdoor critter population has grown by two.   The tree squirrel that took up residence here was apparently pregnant when she arrived and the youngsters are scampering around the trees, learning how to be tree squirrels that go out into the world and further populate.   I have no idea why we have tree squirrels now, after 12 years of never seeing one, but they are amusing to watch and photograph.
They don't know to be afraid of me so if I stand very quietly under the tree, they will come within a few feet of me and just look at me.   Their feet are so amazing.   If these two mature and raise babies here, we may get concerned about the growing size of the family, but for now it's keeping us entertained.   As long as the pine cones are available, I suppose they will stay.

What Have They Done?

Blogger made some changes this week.   I didn't dig in enough to understand them because most, I'm sure, don't apply to my needs...
