Ballerina Bird

She was twirling in the sand from the wind.   As I got closer, I realized she only had one leg.   She took off, flew a short distance, and landed again.   Sweet little ballerina bird wasn't letting anything keep her down.

Sunday Photo Day

Yesterday was a sunny day, but the wind was blowing and that made the 50 degrees feel pretty chilly, at least by our standards.   I made a short visit out to the barn to see the horses but knew it was not going to be fun for riding.   So I texted Erik.   He was happily watching the Celtics on TV and so I headed to the coast.   Although it was windy at the coast, the temperature was a little warmer.   I parked along the Morro Bay Strand and headed out with my camera.   You can walk for a long long way on that stretch of beach.   People were enjoying watching the high surf, flying kites, looking for treasures in the sand,  riding horses (!!), and generally just soaking up the gorgeous blue skies.

I took another many many photos to satisfy myself and was planning to head home.   But then I turned onto Hwy 1 and drove a short distance to Cayucos.   Home of the delicious smoked shrimp tacos!!!   And after another walk along the beach taking photos, I was satisfied and drove home.   Okay, yes I made one more stop....at this place.     http://brownbuttercookies.com   They had all their usual delicious flavors, but were offering a Lime and Coconut cookie that I just had to try.   Mouth watering good:-)

One of the things I found delightful yesterday was walking up the beach and finding that someone had placed this chair alongside the path through the rocks.   I didn't stop to rest, but I thought it was very inviting to sit and watch the surf.   And the people.   And the occasional dogs.

Bring your camera when you come to California and you can lounge for a while by the ocean.

The Last Few Moments

Our rain clouds cleared away today and we were left with a beautiful sunset.   Each day has its own kind of beauty.   Find something to appreciate and capture it in your memory or with your camera.

I am not going to post a beach photo today.   Here is your intermission.   Enjoy a little zen time with my chickens.

My New Favorites

After I spent most of my time taking photos of the waves, I stopped and noticed the people on the beach.   The sun was behind the Morro Bay Rock so most of the beach was in shadow.   I captured a series people walking in the surf and they are probably my favorites of the day.   I could put them together in a collage and show the movement....maybe I will.

Where to Begin

I had such a nice weekend, and especially a wonderful Sunday.   I took 500 photos today!   Of course I won't keep all of them, but still.....

Morro Bay was spectacular.   It was about 75 degrees, clear blue sky, very high surf, a holiday weekend with people enjoying the beautiful day, and bird lovers visiting for the Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival.

I'm too tired tonight to share a bunch of photos on here but this one shows you just how fabulous the waves were, crashing against the rocks on one side of the big rock.   I was in awe.

And it's only 20 minutes from home.   I may go back again tomorrow.

Scattered Oaks

San Luis Obispo County has oak trees scattered everywhere.   Lots and lots of oak trees.  I'm sure I've told you that before, possibly more than once.   But I am of the age that allows me to repeat myself without apologizing.   Anyway,  being someone who really likes the contrast of trees against a blue sky....I try to pull over as much as possible.   I was going through photos and found this one that I wanted to share with you.   I hope you are having a great week.   It's finally warm enough here during the day for pleasant horseback riding, even though the nights have been in the 20's.   Brrrrrr.   I've always called that freezing a$$ cold.

This is written well and worth sharing if you don't completely understand ISO.

The Lights Come On

This is not a great photo, but I thought this cloud was pretty cool.   Looking out across the field next to us, toward Atascadero as the sun sets and the lights come on.

Google Earth is Cool

I was messing around on Google Earth this morning and found actual "walking around" street views of the town where my sister and I grew up.   And this is the house we grew up in.   Having not been there for many many years, it's really fun to see it up close like this.   And the second photo is of the feed store which was my parents' business.   Across the street is the swimming pool where we spent our summers with our green hair.   We were little blondies and the chlorine turned our hair green every summer.   I love Google Earth!

My favorite place to eat in Cayucos when I drive through to take photos.   I order their smoked shrimp tacos which include celery and apples.   They are delicious.   But don't take my word for it, rather drive there and sample them yourself.

There are several of these on YouTube and I think it is absolutely hilarious.   If you need a laugh today, take a little time for this.   The only hard part for me is understanding those crazy Brits:-)

The Guardians

I know some people despise Crows for their wily ways and general peskiness.   I find them a great deal of fun to have around.   Of course we don't have dozens of them, just a few, so I can forgive their bossiness and need for control.   They watch over the property and alert the other birds to intruders such as hawks.   They allow some birds to share the space, but have moments when they would prefer everyone clear out.   I enjoy their Crow sounds which are quite varied.   And unlike most of their cousins, the Magpies, they don't really mind if I take their photograph.   I think the Magpies are the gangbangers and the Crows are more lawful.   The Magpies try to intimidate the Crows with their numbers, but aren't very successful.   So mostly, they live in peace among our chickens while sharing the chicken feed and water buckets.

Most mornings you can find one or more of them sitting on the poles, calling out to one another or barking warnings at intruders.   Now if only they would do something about the flying mice, aka sparrows.

A New Year, A New Photo

It's just a new profile photo for Winter.   I'm getting back into my own routine now that Erik has gone back to work and the sun is shining!!!   That means more riding time and more energy from the sun.   And a scheduled massage this weekend with my former massage therapist whom I adore!   It's time to work through some of the aches that my aging body inflicts on me.   And it's also time to spend some time de-cluttering and selling stuff.   Out with the old stuff and not bringing in new.   Simplify...it's good for the soul.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all my blogging friends.

What Have They Done?

Blogger made some changes this week.   I didn't dig in enough to understand them because most, I'm sure, don't apply to my needs...
