It's Wednesday Again?

Where did the past week go?   I've taken lots of photos and was planning to share them.   I've been spending a lot of time at the barn taking care of horses.   My mare, Fancy, has been working through a bad bout of colic since Saturday morning.   When it rains....you know the rest.   She seems to have turned the corner toward recovery and yesterday was a better day.

With Erik home over the weekend, I was able to take him to Lowes and a couple of granite companies to gather our ideas for the kitchen remodel.   It's nice when we think alike on the ideas.   Makes it much much easier to move ahead to finalize the design and hopefully make those decisions that we want to live with forever.

Our strange, cool, cloudy, more humid weather continued through yesterday.   It's going to get windy and heat up today and we just need to get through a couple more months until Autumn.   Ahhhh yes, lovely Autumn.   The clouds have brought gorgeous skies and you can be sure I added hundreds more files to my already bursting Lightroom library.

Can you spot the little guys watching the sunset with me?

And a pole sitter in the distance?

I haven't made a decision about a new lens but I'm definitely going to get something.   Wide angle or macro?   Oh boy, hard to decide.

Have a great Wednesday and if you're in the area, check out the local California Mid-State Fair.

Simply Lovely

It's Wednesday so no words are needed.

Well, maybe just one word.   Hollyhocks.

I Don't Do Humid

I grew up in Iowa.   Land of humidity.   Really, who cares when you're a kid and it's all you've known?   We still went outside to play and the only discomfort was when we tried to sleep at night in an upstairs bedroom that wasn't air conditioned.   We didn't have central air conditioning and it wasn't until our teens, as I recall, that our parents put a window a/c upstairs.   So we would take our pillows and blankets and head downstairs to sleep on the living room floor.   Again, who cares when you're a kid and your bones and joints don't ache when you get up off the floor?

Coastal air is not humid air.   It's moist but not humid and it offers a clean deep breath when you're walking along the beach.   We are inland and often benefit from the coastal air pushing inland.   When  we get offshore air, it pulls crap (yes, a meteorological term) from the inland valleys.   We don't like that, not one bit.   The air in the inland valleys is notorious for being dirty and full of pollutants from the farming and lack of cooling breezes.

Yesterday was bad bad bad weather.   Our breezes came to a standstill and a hot pocket (not the kind you eat) settled over us and brought the stifling temps to 106.   It was awful.   The kind of air that you can't take a breath.   Not fit for man or woman or chickens.   I took care of Beau in the morning and headed to Cambria for a while.   I should have stayed all day and all night.

I see little vintage trailers online and imagine having one, parking it somewhere at the coast, and just hanging out.   I just don't do humid.

A Respite

We have had a fabulous week of relatively cool temperatures for the month of July.   Early morning fog and clouds, breezes and blue skies have provided a summer respite.   100+ temps are coming tomorrow so I have been outside this week as much as possible, knowing that I'll be hunkered down again very soon.

I drove to the coast twice.   It was terrific to take my camera out for a little stroll.

For those of you who sometimes wonder about Beau, he is doing very very well.   He graduated this week to spending all day outside in a sand paddock.   The vet took off the big Ultimate shoes that were protecting his feet after the founder.    By tomorrow I will be hand walking him around barefoot in the sand arena to strengthen his feet.   His jaw is healed and he feels great.

I've been considering a wide angle lens again.   Reading reviews online is always a mixed bag, isn't it?   I may rent a lens from Borrow Lenses and see for myself.   I've considered a mirror less camera but I just don't know what to think about it.   And again, making a choice as to which one is a bit daunting.    Pros and cons....I have enough to think about as we're working on a kitchen design.   What????   More on that later....

Have a great weekend!
