Where the Bugs Are

For the past two days, I have been watching this mama woodpecker teaching her baby how to find the bugs in the redwood tree.   She is still feeding him while she's teaching him to find his own.   The only way to capture them is through the kitchen window.   They are moving around so quickly, it's hard to get a clear shot.   But it's fun to watch them until the marauding magpies come and chase them away.

Mama's on the bottom, checking each spot for the delicious pincher bugs.

She shows him another good spot.

He needs to figure this out on his own so he can have his own baby woodpeckers one day.

Sweet little red headed boy. :-))
What a cute family!! The woodpeckers are one of my favorites to watch, but I've never seen a family.

I hope you're doing well and are enjoying your Thursday!
I just love watching the moms feed the babes even as they look almost as big as she.

So much fun watching the birds learning "how to" do things...we had a family of robins and we learned so much just watching the antics!!

What great shots!!! I love to watch the birds in our yard. There are some real beauties but my finger is not that quick on the camera button to be able to catch them on film. Awesome!

I have a juvenile male that comes to the feeder and his red feathers stick straight up like a crew cut. They are so cute. :)
