A Sign From Nature

This evening, I saw the first tarantula of the season and now I know that Autumn is coming.   They move to higher ground this time of year to avoid being flooded out in lower ground.   They travel uphill, cross roads, over hill and dale, over yonder until they arrive at their Winter destination....wherever that is.   We have been inundated with Tarantula Hawks recently so I am glad to see survivors.   Go Tarantula, crawl like the wind to your new place and we will see you again next year.

Shout It Out

It's Friday.   If you hold a weekday job, you can shout about having two days off.   If you live here and are heading into another (!!) ridiculously hot weekend heat wave, you can shout about the fact that the coast is a short drive away:-)

Color Combinations

What is it about the color Orange that has grabbed and held my attention these past few years?

Beauty Abounds

I have no idea how many sunset photos I have in my files.   I have considered making one folder for all sunsets but I am just not that organized.   Maybe someday in the midst of Winter, rain pouring and the wind howling, I will make an effort.   But not today.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Technicolor

Another floral from our afternoon at the coast.   Sometimes colors are just that brilliant and need no help from us.

Funny....And Yet Not

Did you know there is a shortage of Estradiol?   I just found out when I went to pick up my prescription over the weekend.   Our regular pharmacy has ZERO in inventory and cannot get a commitment from the supplier because there is a shortage in supply.   For Real!   So they knew Wal-Mart had some in stock the previous day and nicely called there for me to confirm it was available.   And then they transferred my prescription so I could drive another 10 miles to pick it up.

Off I go to Wal-Mart, a store I may enter once a year.   I don't like it, never have, never will.   But I breezed right in because it was probably church time and not so many people yet filling their carts.   The lady who helped me confirmed that there is, in fact, a shortage in supply.   She charged me $4.00 for my prescription - Wow!   That impressed me.    Anyway....I told her it was going to be tough times around SLO County with so many women not being able to take their Estradiol.   She agreed, especially because we were in the midst of the 104 degree days.   She told me there were men coming in to pick it up for their wives, men who were desperate enough to say they would pay any amount of money for the pills.   LOL!   We laughed about that.   She told me she's single, therefore has nobody to drive crazy except herself:-)   I walked out of the store chuckling over the brief but funny conversation.

This is just a cute little story, not a call out for a debate on hormone replacement therapy.   Thank you very much for respecting that.

And so it was a day for finding pretty flowers at the coast.   A good day overall, once my dilemma was solved - at least for the next 30 days.

Escape

We left the hot weather yesterday and spent a few hours at the coast.   Erik's daughter has moved from Oregon to California and is enroute to her destination, and so she is spending a few days with us:-)   It was a picture perfect day.

Have a lovely Monday and I will do the same!

Where Is She?

I'm in a blogging slump again but I will be back soon.   I know I have complained about the weather, but it's been 104 here the past two days and I just need to move on.   Autumn, where are you????   I thought you were right around the corner and then you ran in the other direction.

So just carry on.   I am reading your blogs and will be inspired again very soon.   I am going in search of Autumn to see what's keeping her away.   I named my little ranch after her and she needs to come check on us.   Autumn?   Autumn!   Get your beautiful self back here, we are waiting.

Sweet Peeps

Thank you for stopping by yesterday to wish me a Happy Birthday.   The cake you saw on my sister's blog is a photo I found online several months ago.   I hope to find someone to make that cake one of these days.   I suppose I could try, but that's not going to happen.   I think fondant would be pretty challenging and I am not someone with tons of patience for projects.

We've had a few days of gorgeous clouds in the sky, but with that comes some humidity.   How do you live with humidity?   I feel like I need 3 showers a day and so many changes of clothes.   Of course not all of you are taking care of outside animals, but still!!   Humidity is not my friend.

I am trying to be very aware and thoughtful about our election this year.   I am concerned that so many people are making a choice based on harsh rhetoric and statements based on spin rather than fact.   I want people to be responsible for themselves, but there are so many in our country who are not able to live on their means.   Our government brought this country to its knees under the previous administration.   I don't want to return to those policies.   I am not inviting controversy here.   This is my blog, I have not been political, but I feel it's so important to express my choices in some small way.

And so it's Friday!   I am going to be home with flooring installers for half the day.   Oh joy!   Thank goodness for air conditioning so the humidity stays outside.

More of our beautiful September 5th sky.

Sunup to Sundown

Yesterday was one of those days that I try to lock in my memory because I enjoyed it so much.   After having our morning coffee, I noticed the sky was lightening to reveal beautiful clouds everywhere.   I took my camera outside to try different settings and see what I could capture.   Harry and Gunny left their hay (shocking!) long enough to get some pets from Mama.   And I stayed outside to enjoy the first half hour of light.   I edited this just a little to bring up the exposure and brighten the photo, but it was naturally spectacular.

The clouds stayed with us all day and there was a very slight chance of a thunderstorm.   The evening sky was 360 degrees of beautiful.   I was trying to capture every bit of light and almost missed the fact that No. 16 chicken was hanging out under the coop at bedtime.   I always count heads, thankfully, and got her safely to bed.

I know this is going to be another nice day with clouds in the forecast.   And....today is my Birthday!   More pretty photos soon but right now, I have a hot cup of coffee with my name on it.

I love September, it makes me smile.   Enjoy your day.

That's a Wrap

Labor Day weekend is over, along with so many events and vacations and Summer for kids and heat and lack of rain.   Okay, maybe not the last two, but that will happen soon.   And for us, we didn't have events or vacations....and we certainly don't have kids (Whew!).    But there is a change in the air that is   my beloved Autumn.   I have seen a few leaves on the ground, a few birds that are not regulars, and the hair on the horses is getting a little thicker.   All those things make me smile.

We do have things going on around our place so life is not as dull as it may sometimes sound.   With two of the horses at home, there are additional chores and beautiful animals filling our hearts.   If you are a horse person, you know how it feels to sit and listen to them eat, smell their horsey smell, listen to them nicker, pet them, brush them.

We have bids to replace the floor in the guest/spare bedroom so that will happen very soon, hopefully before our special guest arrives.    One of Erik's daughters is moving to California so she will be closer to us, and passing through for a visit the middle of this month.   Yay!   We also have a sliding door to replace before Winter comes.   And then we batten down the hatches, so to speak, until next year's projects rise to the top of the list.

I am sharing this photo today because to me, it represents the end of Summer.   I am not a car lover by any means, but I saw this one recently in Santa Barbara and thought it was super cool.   It would be fun to cruise Pacific Coast Highway and pull out along the way for a picnic.   Or drive it to a lake and stop for some lakeside fishing.   It's definitely a Summer car, designed for outdoor fun.   And when Summer is over, it goes back inside until next year.

And so it goes....

Happy September!!
