This and That

Hey, how about the 49ers win yesterday?   Woohoo!   Made us very happy in this household.
I was going to post a photo of Colin Kaepernick but they are all so gorgeous and I felt a little like a grandma looking at a very young man and it didn't seem quite right.   Ha!

The cold weather didn't seem to bother the players, but dang, it's scary cold in many parts of the country.   We're just enjoying beautiful California days with everyone getting more and more concerned about the drought.   2013 was the driest year on record and there is still no rain in the forecast.   We wanted to plant a couple more trees this year since it's now bare root planting season.   With the lack of rain, we aren't going to do that this year.

The locals are getting more and more angry about the vineyards.   And scenes like this in the middle of a Sunday afternoon....for 2 hours a day, every day.

Someone recently said that it takes about 38 gallons of water to produce one glass of wine.   Fuji Water purchased a local winery a couple of years ago and have since purchased hundreds of acres with more being prepared for planting.   Their underground pipes are huge, the size of pipes that are used for municipal water.   What do they care?   If we run out of water, they drill deeper or declare a loss and leave the area.   High and dry.

Enough of that, I just have to get it off my chest every once in a while.

In more good news, my Chicken Little is doing much better.   She is still a little lacking in energy, but eating and drinking and all those things a chicken should do.   I really can't believe she's alive and that I was able to do what I did to save her.   Really.   Fifteen years ago I was shopping and traveling and living a very non-rural life, never imagining I would have chickens or donkeys or horses.   Life is quite surprising, isn't it?

How about another seal photo?   It has nothing to do with anything in this post but that's why I called it "This and That" and not something more specific.

I've worked on this photo in Lightroom because it was taken in the middle of the day and way too bright.   This is the area near Piedras Blancas where the seals hang out.   It may become one of those photos I keep going back to until I'm satisfied.   I do that sometimes.   Obsessive?   Perhaps.

I woke up at 4:00 this morning and now I'd like to go back to bed.   I hope you all have a good day, even though for some it means back-to-work Monday.   Stay safe if you're in that Polar Vortex.

I slept until nearly 7 this morning... pups demanded we get up so we did. I feel your pain on the waking too early today though... that happened to me yesterday and required an afternoon snooze to play catch up. I feel for you on the water situation there. Time to start buying tanks of water yet? Gosh they are sure taking advantage of the locals.

Though I don't live there, I share your dislike of that water situation. That last photo is just perfection.

i do hope the water conditions improve for you, but i know it is already quite late in the season to get rains or snows for relief.

I think you should write about water issues. Those of us in the rain belt need to know this. Those of us who drink wine need to know this.

Our kids used to go watch the 49er summer camp at Sierra College. In the Joe Montana/Jerry Rice days. Big fun.

Glad your chicken is doing better. I used to carry one around as a child and it would eat off my plate. And yes, I DO realize I was a weird kid.

There are similar water issues in Nebraska along the Colorado border...

Love your edit in the last photo -- have a nice nap! :)
