Kitchen Progress

Today will be Day Four of the kitchen remodel, still in the demolition phase.   Here's what's happened so far.

We set up our temporary kitchen and thought everything would fit, but the measurement for moving the refrigerator into this room was a little off.   The refrigerator is sitting in the living room.   This will be our pantry with the sink now connected.   We will put more white cabinets in here and a tile floor.

Our kitchen before demo began was a typical 30-year-old kitchen.

End of Day One

End of Day Two

End of Day Three.   The ceiling is gone, open to the roof.

The closet on the right is gone

Looking into the kitchen from the living room

The living room with plastic sheeting

                                                                    The dining room

And so, here we are about to begin Day Four.   The contractor and his cousin are the nicest guys you could ever want working on your home.   There have been no surprises....well, except for the little snake that Chad found yesterday morning sitting on the closet shelf as he was removing it.   It must have slithered in with the open doors.   SO GLAD he found it and removed it.   Right after that, a bird flew in.   I asked Chad to stop bringing his friends to the job site.

I'm not sure what's in store for today but it may involved tidying up the electrical that will be changed for the new lighting.   It may involve the plumber coming in to start working.   I'll know in about 45 minutes, so I better get started with my day.

More to follow!

Ah, memories. But so much dust and dirt and things that do not quite fit. Looking forward to your lovely new kitchen.

It's good to see such progress! I hope it goes back in as quickly. How long do you think this will take?

We had a mourning dove come in when we added a family room to the house. It sat in that room cooing--and the cats were going BONKERS!

I'm sure it will be worth it when it's all done. I think I would've left my blinds up. Too late now. They'll be fun to clean. I don't envy you. I hope you have no more visitors.
Hello!! It has been too long, and seeing what you've been up too, I think YOU should be the one whose missing in action--I hope your little visitors stay that way! :-) But it will be wonderful and amazing when it's all done!!

What one goes through to get to the final results. I hope you can have some time to click some favorite shots while the guys work away. Five days in brings you closer to the kitchen of your dreams . . .

It's hellish living through a remodel like that. I did back in 2001. We had lovely builders, too, they tidied up every single evening and tried to leave the place looking reasonably liveable

Wow, I love seeing these remodels unfold. It will be totally worth it in the end!
Funny about the snake and bird - OK, not so funny for you, but when you look back at this experience, maybe it will be.
Praying that everything goes smoothly!

Holy Cow that is a MAJOR remodel you are doing!! I remember adding on to our home in years past. I was stressed to the max by all the mess. Hope you get through it all with little complications.

That's quite a lot of work you'll have to deal with. Not to mention the routing and the lay out of the pipes. Best of luck to you guys. I'm really looking forward to seeing you pull that whole thing off. I know you'll do.

i understand your desire for a new kitchen but i would have traded my 30 year old kitchen for yours in a heart beat .. of course yours wouldn't fit in my tiny space ... oh well ...
