Wild Things

Our outdoor critter population has grown by two.   The tree squirrel that took up residence here was apparently pregnant when she arrived and the youngsters are scampering around the trees, learning how to be tree squirrels that go out into the world and further populate.   I have no idea why we have tree squirrels now, after 12 years of never seeing one, but they are amusing to watch and photograph.
They don't know to be afraid of me so if I stand very quietly under the tree, they will come within a few feet of me and just look at me.   Their feet are so amazing.   If these two mature and raise babies here, we may get concerned about the growing size of the family, but for now it's keeping us entertained.   As long as the pine cones are available, I suppose they will stay.

I like the squirrels. It seems, to me, that the more you fight them, the worse "they are." I happen to like the squirrels and they never seem to be destructive or annoying. Well, other than digging up my potted plants every now and again. There are worse annoyances, I think.

Your new friends are awfully cute!
They really are fun to watch, and they always have friends and family around!!

I only find them annoying when I have bird feeders hanging in the fall. We have lots of food, so we have them year round. Yours seem to have larger ears and hands!

Cute babies. It's that time of the year when all creatures populate. Hope they can find someplace to live once the pinecones are gone, xox

for several summers we had a squirrel who frequented our shared semi paved over backyard .. her ear had a notch so we named her Nacho ... she brought her babies to visit one spring .. she'd come up on the window sill (we had screens) and eat the peanuts we left for her .... then one day we mentioned her to our vet and he said stop feeding her .. she may have rabies or other issues like fleas or ticks that could make their way through the screen and infect the cats ...

I've never heard them called "tree squirrels", but I guess that distinguishes them from the ground squirrels? Apparently there are only "tree squirrels" where I live (probably too cold for the ground ones). Your guys have such fluffy tails! Ours hang out at the bird feeder...
