A Hot One

We've had a nice summer with very few days over 100 degrees.   This weekend was awfully hot, hitting about 104 on Saturday and 107 on Sunday.   Not fit for man nor beast, especially chickens.   So we spent a lot of time indoors with the a/c running nonstop.   Snacking, watching TV, napping....things like that.   Not exciting but just beating the heat wave.

Yesterday wildfires broke out on the Cuesta Ridge which is where Highway 101 heads south into San Luis Obispo.   A main north-south artery in our state.   Apparently someone driving a pickup had a chain dragging and the sparks ignited fires in 3 spots.   Really, people don't think about things like that as much as they should, given our extreme drought conditions.   The firefighters out here in the West are stretched so thin.   I guess they are bringing in the National Guard in Oregon to help fight the fires up there because there are no more reserves available.   Never ever ever underestimate what firefighters do.   They put their lives on the line and work in extreme conditions to save lives and property.   In California, we now pay an annual Cal Fire tax of $115 for our property.   I never feel bad paying that particular tax.

This morning we had a pretty sunrise, although there is a lot of smoke that's settled in which creates problems for someone like me with asthma.   Onshore winds are due to move in later today and will hopefully clear this out.   I expect another day spent mostly indoors.

Out early this morning to feed the donkeys, release the chickens, and let the dogs out, I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise.

I hope you have a good day!

I despise this heat! 102 in San Jose but I was in Concord with grandchildren where the temperature was 106. We too, stayed indoors with the AC on.
My son is one of those CDF firefighters. He has been all over the State fighting fires. I can attest they are a dedicated bunch of guys and gals.

Three cheers for the firefighters! Not only do they put themselves in harm's way, but they do it even when the temperatures are unfit for all. What great people they are!
There have been two firefighters here in California that lost their lives fighting fires this year that I am aware of, it's bad enough that many fires are caused by lightning strikes but so unnecessary when caused by peoples stupidity. One in Oakhurst caused by a teenager lighting pine needles. Right now there are evacuations in King's Canyon National Park due to lightning, smoke is so bad here and it's going to be hot all week.

Beautiful sunrise in deed! Those fires are very scary. I feel badly for those that have to fight them. Such a dangerous job. I hope your air clears out soon. I guess that's just one more bad thing about summer. We definitely need rain. Have a good week.

Yes people don't think sometimes during drought conditions. Our recent fire was started by Wheat Farming equipment. - Hope the fires in your area are out soon. Those clouds are so cool looking. Enjoyed the last shot with the donkeys.

It does seem you have been getting our hot weather. We have had hot weather here, but not the unbearable temps. I spend most time in the shade and a nice breeze is usually around to cool off in. I hate hearing about those fires out west. So many and I fear for the lives of all.

until this past weekend we had some not so bad summer heat ... but now its a 'true' heatwave and our AC is on energy saver mode ... at least in the living room .. the bedroom is on full i cant sleep if there's no air ...
Been wondering how you were faring with the fires all around. Sure would be nice to have some slow, steady rain come through to help out. Stay safe. (As it thunders overhead here.)
