Stopping for Naked Sheep

I was driving home from my friend's yesterday after riding my horse, Henry.   It's what I do now, spend time with my horse.   But I sometimes miss my camera, so I usually make sure I have it with me, just in case.   I had an apple with me yesterday, on the seat of the truck, which I forgot to give to Henry and hadn't yet eaten for myself.   It fell onto the floor and was rolling around with every turn.   Things like that make me a little crazy because I desperately want to reach over and pick up whatever is rolling around.   Can't do that when you're driving, right?   So I pulled over to take care of the problem, just a couple miles from home.   And the naked sheep were grazing in the big pasture that sometimes has mini donkeys and other times has sheep.   Photo op!   Right?

I took a few photos of the view because I find it so beautiful, even this time of year when the grasses and fields are brown.   That's why California is nicknamed The Golden State, did you know?

I didn't edit these photos at all.   I didn't even have a filter on my lens.   It was just that beautiful, at least to my eye.   The contrasting colors against the crisp sky are pleasing to me.   It's the reason I named my ranch Autumn Sky.

I hope you have a nice week.   I am going to make an effort to take more photos and share some with you here.   Thanks for visiting!

Ranch Dog

One of our dogs is an Aussie, or Australian Shepherd to be more formal.   I was told she is from a line of working dogs, not the more fluffy show dog type that I often see.   She is busy busy busy.   It's just a shame we don't have animals that need to be tended or herded.   When she was a puppy, she was a lunatic.   No other word for it.   I wasn't sure I could be her only companion so I brought home another puppy.   He is an Aussie/Golden cross.   He is much calmer and has to endure being the target of her natural herding instincts.   She is smarter than any dog I've ever had.   You might fool her once but you will NEVER fool her twice.   She anticipates, strategizes, keep track of every one and every thing, and tries to stay a step ahead of the pack at all times.   But she will collapse into a sweet submissive dog for attention and petting, hoping you will stay there with her all day.   When she wants attention, she will bump your leg with her pointy nose.   Over and over and over, until you reach down and pet her.   Loving and loyal forever.

Erik came into our lives and nicknamed her The Bullet.   As with herding dogs, she can go from your side, head out to the back of the property, turn and make it back to your side....lickety split.   She is loyal to us and to our property.   She barks too much but does her best to keep critters and garbage trucks away from our place.   She smiles.   The groomers love her because of her sweet nature...and her smile.   And now she has taken up howling.   When the donkeys holler out, she howls along with them.

This is our sweet and busy girl.   We love her very much.

I Have Hats

I know most of you have noticed that my sister posts photos of herself in many situations, in many different looks, in vehicles, on her deck, etc.   And I never post photos of myself.   I just don't take the time to set up the camera, tripod, and participate in my own photos.   The Photo Booth on my Mac is about as good as it gets for me.   I was trying on my different hats for some reason.   Who knows why? It doesn't matter and no one cares anyway.   I like this black hat.   With the fair beginning today, there are always soooo many hats to try.   I don't really need a new one but I bet I'm going to find one I like as much as, or more than, this one.

Introducing

I have a new horse:-)   I'm still working on what to call him because I didn't feel like his previous name suited him, at least for me.   So I've been busy with him rather than blogging.   I'm sure you understand.

Have a nice Wednesday.   Our California Mid-State Fair opens today, the weather is great this week, so it should be fun.   They have all that "fair food" that is such a guilty pleasure.   What's your favorite?

Just a "Wow" Story

Look at what they've done for this little baby donkey.   This story makes me so happy:-)

Chillin'

I'm still here.   We had a heat wave this week with high temperatures at 108.   It's interesting how there is such a difference between 100 and 105+ in terms of how we all handle the heat.   But it's cooling down today and should be more normal summer temperatures for the next week.   Whew.   And so we have been chillin' and not doing much else.

I hope you all had a nice week with a little more going on than I have had here.   Happy Friday!

Just One Month

Looking back through my photos, I can see clearly what a difference a month makes in our landscape.    There are some back roads I've taken a few times to get over to the place where I have taken some riding lessons with a lady who teaches competitive trail.   It's a course that's set up where you have to do patterns over poles on the ground, ride across bridges, turn inside poles set up in box shapes, things like that.   It's fun.

But the point of this post is to show our gorgeous vistas when you get off the freeway and wind through the rural countryside.   I've told you before, our area is so much about rolling hills, oak trees, and vineyards.   And in this case, a wonderful red barn.   I have edited these photos a little, but not much.   There are days when our sky is so blue, it almost doesn't look real.

Enjoy your Monday.   Our temperatures are heating up, I hope yours are cooling down.

No Inspiration

None.   Nada.   Zip.

July doesn't have inspiration for me, at least so far.   I am sure I'll find some, maybe even today, but it's been elusive for sure.

So I am going through my photo files to see if I can find something, anything, to share with you.   You're going to have to wait for another day.

What have I been doing?   Well, I've been having some fun in different ways, but haven't taken one single photo.   The 4th of July was a good day.   We went to our friends' house for an evening barbecue and it was delicious.   Good company, good food, gorgeous cool weather.

Yesterday morning, my girlfriend called early to say she had been surprised by baby chicks in her chicken coop.   Squeeeee!!!    I rushed right over to see them and left my camera home.   They are inside running around, hiding under their two mamas, and it's not too easy to take photos anyway.   But there are 12 of them, an even dozen.   And they are adorable.

Cooper is still at the trainer's and doing very well.   We have decided to look for a new home and person for him.   As much as I love him, he is a very forward moving horse, big stride which is typical of his breed, and not really what I'm looking for in a trail horse.   He would be happier with someone who wants to give him more of a job and more training.   Horses are happy when they are doing what they enjoy, what they are suited for, as long as they are treated well and fed.

Beau is still for sale and still at the trainer in Gilroy.   We really need to find him a new person soon.

And so, I still have no horse to ride on a consistent basis.   I've looked at a few, ridden a couple, and can't find a good one that suits me.   But I will persevere!

Our heat has finally come to the Central Coast, just yesterday, but is here to stay for the rest of the July. Temperatures of 95-100+ are definitely not going to inspire me.   But something will.   And when it does, I will share it with you.   Maybe I should go dip my toes in the water.

White and Blue

I've posted this photo before, but since it was titled "Fireworks" in my file, I think it belongs on this day's post.   Enjoy your 4th of July holiday and be safe.

Above all, don't drink and drive.   I'm sure none of you would do that, but it always bears repeating on this day of celebrations as well as the other 364 days of the year.

Come Ride With Me

I was looking at a video of a horse and they had this music playing.   I like this song and don't mind it being stuck in my head.   But having had an Email conversation recently with a certain follower named Mark of http://www.oursimplelives.com/ fame, I wanted to play it for you and see how serious he was with his comments about Country Music.   I don't know if this qualifies for the type that will cause him to leave my blog, but I'm just going to test him a little.

Get this one stuck in your head today, Mark.   I know you will come to enjoy it:-)))

Patriotic Songs

I am going to spend some time on YouTube to find my favorite patriotic songs.   Neil Diamond sang one that I like a lot.   It's not easy to find videos of Neil when he was younger and had that smoooooth sound in his voice, but he is a treasure at any age.

Happy July 3rd!

I Found a Barn

It's not that easy to find wood barns in our area.   This photo was taken in Nipomo, CA on a sunny day.   I punched up the color a little, but not much, just to bring up the yellow against the very brown dirt.

It's Monday.   I hope you have cool weather and power where you live.
